What happens when a lifelong Restoration believer realizes he can no longer hide part of who he is? Carl Huttenberger shares his journey from decades of faith and ministry in The Church of Jesus Christ (Bickertonite) to Community of Christ, including the challenges of missionary service, being outed before he could tell his own story, his experience with non-affirming theology, and the controversy surrounding Chief Midegah. At the center is an emotional and deeply personal conversation between Carl and Steve about being gay men of faith, finding acceptance, and discovering that embracing authenticity doesn’t have to mean leaving Jesus behind. Carl is writing a book of his life experiences entitled Light Heals. #bookofmormon #churchofjesuschrist #communityofchrist #josephsmith #williambickerton #sidneyrigdon #josephsmithiii #mormonism #mormonhistory #emmasmith #johnhamer #nativeamerican #lightheals Link to Carls podcast and website: https://www.lighthealswithcarl.com/ Links to support Mormon Book Reviews: Venmo Link: https://account.venmo.com/u/mbrven PayPal Link: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/mormonbookreviews?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US Patreon Link: https://www.patreon.com/mormonbookreviews Channel Merch Store: https://www.mormonbookreviews.com MBR Email: mormonbookreviews@gmail.com

Beyond the familiar question, “Are Mormons Christian?” lies a deeper and stranger one: “Are Mormons atheists?” It is a question posed by many Evangelicals across the internet, but the answer may be far more complicated than a simple yes or no. Steven Smilanich of This Saint’s Theory joins Steven Pynakker to explore the implications of Mormon theology and cosmology, and why the question becomes increasingly difficult the deeper one looks. Perhaps, if Mormon cosmology were proven to be absolutely true, it would force us to confront possibilities far more unsettling than either traditional Christianity or atheism allows. It would demand new philosophical frameworks and raise questions about God, existence, eternity, and the nature of reality itself. We would be confronted not merely with Pilate’s ancient question, “What is truth?” but with something far more disturbing: “Who is Truth?” #mormondoctrine #nietzsche #josephsmith #mormonhistory #mormoncosmology #philosophy #nihilism #christianity #evangelical #stevenpynakker #athiest #atheism #mormonism #mormonbookreviews Steven Smilanich's channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ThisSaintsTheory Link to purchase the book: https://www.amazon.com/Latter-day-Saints-Existentialists-Theory-essays/dp/B0DPQRR8QM/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.PMcQ2uIFunbUc7n8CKHC_ctQoIPeOy7mY6hFq8D7VbIlFlZDJsTG1oeyr4WkJ9CiE28I71iTR59htI8LW1w0Bn8CcbwISBMCDN0vjgGAbYnth8hCexnuCnNpy8Bi6ChMwf6zugDju5Dgo-z2FRWxZw.axRZjq-_BssdnoMysDR1psLDwjNT7MrTzvFQZZgot6U&qid=1736570882&sr=8-1 Links to support Mormon Book Reviews: Venmo Link: https://account.venmo.com/u/mbrven PayPal Link: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/mormonbookreviews?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US Patreon Link: https://www.patreon.com/mormonbookreviews Channel Merch Store: https://www.mormonbookreviews.com MBR Email: mormonbookreviews@gmail.com 0:00 Introduction and context 4:30 Existentialism and theology 8:46 Comparing divine models 11:50 Analyzing Mormon scripture 24:57 God's nature and status 26:43 Paganism and mythology 30:26 Scriptural analysis 34:32 Faith and divine limits 39:02 Jung and the problem of evil 42:20 Biblical interpretation 46:03 Genesis and ancient myths 51:46 Literalism versus history 59:34 Apocalypse and conclusion

On a special interview Kurt Francom of Leading Saints joins Steven Pynakker to interview John Bushman. We talked about when it might not be enough to belong to the Right Church (as it is thought of) and what parts Conversion, Spiritual Rebirth, Faith, and Legalism play in our thoughts on Salvation. Also, creating a culture that Gathers people to Jesus Christ.
